How long a mattress should you buy?

The Sleep Council recommends a mattress that is 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20cm) longer than you are tall. So a bed for a tall person could be 7'3" (220cm) long or more.

For 99% of people, this would be a mattress length of 7'3" (220cm) or under.
